Future Friend
05:11
|

Oh if you’re terrified, I’m on the run
If words get weary and we’ve just begun
Or if you’re giddy now, I’m dancing too
Each time it’s said it becomes more true
Each day we choose again
Oh if you count me out, then I’m alone
What curse is keeping a love you’ve outgrown
Or if you have me sow a love to tend
Then there’s no waiting, then there’s no end
I’ll choose a future friend
Oh if you feel the weight, of what you should be
You’ve earned a current, the past ain’t free
And if you bring me to - I’ll be enough
I’m not a new man, I’m just in love

Home

I’m coming home tonight, driving through a lover’s light
Looking out for sorrow, slowing down for joy
Taking time for good and bad, to colour in the dreams I had
Push up and away, horizon and the race
All-time every day, the headlights
I need I create, I think it’s time
I love you in my own way
I’m coming home tonight
Wild with a love that’s right
I have wished to be at home, to be loved as something grown
The roots and the ringwork, the wood of family dreams
To branch out and to hold dear, those who I have carried here
Push up and away, see all the hills that tell
Of quiet day-to-day: the teacher
Ready, unafraid, unproven as I am
To love you in my own way
I’m coming home tonight
Wild with a love that’s mine

Life Sings Back
04:30
|

Well I walked along in the morning sun
Heard the greetings rain down from the trees
Every step I kicked up dust in to new life
In return I’m kissed by sea-salt on the breeze
The universe gave me two important gifts:
To love and to ask questions
And I climb up in the old maple tree
And the whole world follows me
I go up into the mountains
I go down to meet the sea
I open up my arms to life
And life sings back to me
And all I’ve loved I’ve learned to carry
Through all the darkness in my way
Oh the cast is ever-changing
But oh, the story stays the same
The afternoon waves felt like home to me
As they come and go and gently ask why
The colours that I love go on changing
'til the pale hours they leave a lonely sky
But the universe has taught me just one thing
It’s that these colours will rise again tomorrow
Even more beautifully than they have ever come before
If I only let myself see it so
I go up into the mountains
I go down to greet the sea
I open up my arms to life
And life sings back to me
And I know no love is ever wasted
No love really ever dies
But blooms in corners of our hearts
With all the little things that make a life
And I slept out in the garden
With the tiny kingdoms that breathe
And my thoughts floated up in the starlight
And I knew something of that light lives in me
The universe gave me two important gifts:
To love and to ask questions
And as I sink into the arms of sleep
I feel the whole world follow me
I go up into the mountains
I go down to meet the sea
I open up my arms to life
And life sings back to me
And I know the feelings I’ll remember
Though I may lose the faces and the names
The cast is ever-changing
But oh, the story stays the same, always.

Young Enough
04:20
|
|||
I’ve kneeled at your deepest roots
I’ve watched you grow and bear new fruit
The seasons I can recognize
They’re all ok with me
The river and the fleeting form
The morning tide, the all night storm
The rolling wave of constant change
It’s all enough for me
‘cos I am so in love with what I owe
The little tasks, the lifelong path of learning how to play
And I can see the best you need from me:
A counterweight, some give and take, and young enough to play
To carry and to catalyse
The things that make your mother wise:
The critic's mind, the neighbour's hand
The love behind your eyes
These little worries I don’t own
With no map but time to show
It’s not about all I might doubt
But what I’ve come to know
‘cos I am so in love with what I owe
The little tasks, the lifelong path of learning how to play
And I can see the best you need from me:
A counterweight, some give and take, and young enough to play
